Since I can remember, I have always loved and appreciated anything with wings – birds, butterflies, and especially airplanes; anything to do with aviation. As a small boy growing up in a rural farming area, finding feathers and collecting them was special to me. It connected me to the magic that made the birds soaring above me swoop and fly in graceful circles.
It was with this feeling of joy and amazement of flying creatures that I eventually decided to become an aircraft technician after I had completed college. I was always fascinated with the systems that made airplanes work and I enjoyed working with my hands in a team environment. Even though I was leaving the mental health field that I had gone to university for, there was something that brought me back to my childhood and told me that aviation was indeed my calling. Over the last couple of months I have been dealing with a situation at work that recently began to intensify over a two-week period. Except for a chat with a good friend, I hadn’t spoken of this situation with anyone as I felt there was something significant going on and that going into conversation about it would draw me away from what this teaching was bringing for me.
I felt I had to stay focussed on the energy at play without diluting it and so creating a distraction.

Walking in amongst the crowds in London central the other day I caught a glimpse of my reflection and was stopped in my tracks, suddenly being drawn to the sound of everyone’s footsteps vibrating through the pavement!
Where were we all going?
Why did it feel so loud and so heavy?

I live in a small and old neighbourhood just outside one of the many cities in Australia. Having lived there for over 10 years I have noticed families come and go, with employment issues and downsizing of family units. What has been interesting to note in the last few months has been the selling and buying of a number of houses near me, and in recent weeks the home next door and one across the road.
The same real estate agent was organised to sell both homes and dropped past my front yard one day while I was gardening, asking if I could give her a short summary of the neighbourhood, as she was setting up a profile for potential clients moving into the area.

My husband and I have been in hospitality for the last 9 years during which we have seen some great changes in our business. We remember when we jumped in, with little experience, and took on a business that involved staff, customers, clients, suppliers and the list goes on. The years have gone by really quickly, with ups and downs, challenges and moments of enjoyment.
What we can say is that we have been committed to serving and delivering, no matter how challenging and tough times have been, and we have always given our 100%. Christmas can be a very stressful period, with the hype of the media, shops and product selling. Everyone is trying to compete with the next venue; who gets the most customers, whose offering is better etc.

A couple of weeks ago I received an email asking me if I was interested in applying for a job in my field of work. The next week involved a series of phone calls with the company, so they could get a feeling as to whether I was suitable for the job. For the first time ever I was not attached to getting this job, and I began to ask questions and initiate certain discussions to see if the company was suitable for me to work with.
The unraveling of this process has been very freeing; for me to feel what is most important in any job that I do. In a nutshell, I can say that this is to make my work about meeting people – that is, being with them in a loving way that is never about me, my needs, the bosses’ needs or the companies’ needs, but all about love and care for people first. Then committing to this consistently, to the best of my ability. Continue reading “Love, Quality and Integrity at Work”
